For Sale by Owner Safety Tips

When selling a house FSBO traditional wisdom about letting strangers in to your home goes out the window, but it should not. On the contrary, to protect your family and property, you must have a safety plan in place and follow it to the letter. Safety has become of utmost important amongst the Realtor community and it should for you too. Below are my Top 3 tips for staying safe when selling For Sale by Owner.
  1. Vet all potential buyers – Ask all buyers for a mortgage pre-approval or proof of funds. If they send you a mortgage pre-approval, call the mortgage broker and ask them about the buyer, that is make sure they are the real deal.
  2. Ask for ID – This is a hard and fast rule for me when showing a property to someone I have never met. A person who is a real person and a serious buyer will send it to you without question. If they come up with excuses for not showing it, the response should always be No ID, no showing.
  3. Use a personal security app. I use Bond as my personal security app. What I like about it is that I can schedule a Security Check at a certain time. I usually schedule one for 15 to 30 minutes after the appointment started, and another at 45 or 60 minutes after it should have ended.
Safety is a primary concern for most people. Don’t let your guard down just because you are selling For Sale by Owner. On the contrary, your defenses should be at their highest level. No action to insure your personal safety is too much. If you have any suggestions for this list, please email or text them to me at 954-993-4246 | desiree@desireeavila.com
